Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, works by fueling the body at a cellular level with the most essential of all life elements: Oxygen. Normal cells thrive on oxygen. When they are saturated with this element (as they are inside the hyperbaric chamber), the cells perform at an optimal level. HBOT's are currently used in burn units in hospitals all over the world, including the burn unit at Atlanta's own Grady Hospital.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has produced benefits in a range of conditions and slows the aging process, by stimulating the production of mitochondria inside cells. This increases the cells energy and is precisely why so many anti-aging products and cosmetic treatments have been built around the concept of infusing the skin with oxygen—cells that are saturated with Oxygen perform and look their best. This holds true whether the cells make up our most vital organs or the surface of our skin.
During an HBOT session, you will lie comfortably in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber while approximately 4 lbs of pressure, per square inch of skin, push the life-enhancing element deep into layers of your tissue and organs. After one hour, Oxygen has completely saturated your body, down to blood plasma and tissue fluids. You will have breathed 2.4 lbs of pure oxygen. When deep-residing cells are flooded with a healthy dose of oxygen, the body’s healing ability is enhanced, and it can return to an optimal state of balance at a faster rate. At Progressive, you receive a perfectly balanced prescription of integrative therapies and complementary treatments, tailored to rebuild and restore wellness according to your individual needs. What is it like inside the Hyperbaric Chamber?
Many users fall asleep inside the comfortable Hyperbaric Chamber during a session that lasts between thirty minutes to an hour. Other than a slight popping sensation in the ears, caused by the increase in bariatric pressure, there are no noticeable differences between being in the chamber and in the outside world. To resolve the popping sensation, you can simply yawn or wiggle your jaw, as you would on an airplane.
Hyperbarics: Part of Integrative Treatment at Progressive
The skilled team of physicians typically integrates Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with other treatments as appropriate, like detoxification, nutritional supplementation, and Intravenous Therapies. “While any of the complementary therapies offered at Progressive are effective when used alone, the benefits are increased exponentially when a multi-angled approach is adopted,” says Dr Frank Matalone, Attending Physician, at Progressive, with extensive education and training in Hyperbaric Medicine.
