Stressed Out and Adrenal Fatigued

The Adrenal Glands are located near the kidneys and produce hormones responsible for a variety of functions in the body. Among those produced are the steroid hormones Cortisol, and DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) which contribute to metabolism and the immune response. The production of these hormones can become altered by internal and external stressors and can result in a wide variety of disorders depending on which hormone is affected.

Measuring adrenals give us a window into how our bodies handle stress. If we are not handling stress well we can be more fatigued and at risk for a number of conditions. Measuring adrenal function is key for prevention and long-term well-being. Adrenals respond extremely well to a number of different treatments, particularly botanicals and nutrients.

Here are some of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue:

  • Fatigue, particularly upon waking, with intermittent “crashes” throughout the day
  • Poor stress response and mood regulation
  • Cognitive issues or “brain fog”
  • Increased energy levels in the evenings
  • Cravings for salty and sweet foods
  • Overuse of caffeine and other stimulants
  • A compromised immune system

These symptoms may have various impacts on your body, such as:

  • Increased inflammation and risk of infections
  • Reduced blood pressure and blood sugar levels
  • Altered metabolism and weight gain or loss
  • Hormonal imbalances and reproductive issues
  • Impaired sleep quality and circadian rhythm
  • Decreased mental clarity and memory
  • Lowered mood and motivation
